Amazon and the networking connect

February 21, 2012

While the world is riding high on the success of social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter, I wouldn’t be surprised if many disagreed with me as I say Amazon is one of its kind in the networking arena.

By and large people consider Amazon to be a shopping haven and remotely connect to it as a networking website. But somewhere deep down they are overlooking some extraordinary communities thriving out there. These communities are thronged with customers who exchange reviews, profiles, author profiles besides chatting with each other at length.

Amazon may not directly solicit social networking ties but it certainly hosts communities that provide a networking platform to the users, shoppers et al. is a world renowned e-Commerce multinational company that is headquartered in Seattle, Washington, United States. It has over the years earned itself the tag of world’s largest online retailer. It was launched in the year 1995 and has since never looked back. It has only grown in strength, popularity, revenues and continues to be the favorite destination of shoppers across the globe.

Amazon started out as an online bookstore and soon branched out selling DVDs, CDs, MP3 downloads, software, video games, electronics, apparel, furniture, food and toys.

To me Amazon seems to be a network that has unique motives. Though it is not hot and happening like Facebook and Twitter yet it is a class apart in its own serene manner. If Facebook allows users to share their personal details, Amazon lets customers review and publish the reviews on the website.

If Twitter is a charmer as a micro-blogging website, Amazon is an encyclopedia. The website promotes interactivity between two people, who are customers and have created a login with the e-Commerce giant. Customers can find reviews, on a variety of subjects, which are much more than just informative.

Most of us may therefore, write Amazon off as a network but to me it is one of the best networking websites for consumers in the world. It may not be a good idea to compare Amazon to other networking giants but it pertinent to mention that the contribution of the online-shopping destination is no less, if not any great to the society at large.
